Principle faculty member in charge of all Mac computer lab graphic design courses such as; Introduction to Graphic Design, Image Manipulation, Digital Illustration, Color Theory for Designers, Advertising Design and Typography. Instructor for Career Technology Education (CTE) High School students dual enrollment coursework.
September 2013 - August 2013, K-12 Art Instructor at Burr Oak Community Schools, Burr Oak, MI. Responsibilities included; instruction for all medias, year book class and grade 9 project-based learning initiative to fund a field trip to the Art Institute in Chicago.
March 2013 - May 2013, Student teacher for elementary level art students at Lawton Elementary School including grades one through five. Mentor teacher, Jody Tucker.
January – March 2013, Student teacher for secondary level students at Kalamazoo Central High School. Project based learning instruction including; Basic Art and Design, Intro to Ceramics, Advanced Ceramics and observed Kendall School of Art and Design dual enrollment class. Current technologies applied in lessons using web 2.0 tools; Prezi, Gloster and Power Point along with literacy tools like graphic organizers the student experience. Mentor teacher, Mark Voege.
August 2012 - December 2012, Teacher assistant for secondary level art classes at Kalamazoo Central High School including; Intro to ceramics, Basic Art & Design and Sculpture curriculums. Training and experiences including classroom management strategies. Mentor teacher, Mark Voege.
2008 - present, Substitute teacher for VanBuren and Kalamazoo County public schools; Kalamazoo, Portage, Schoolcraft, Vicksburg, Paw Paw, Lawton, VanBuren County ISD, Lawrence and Mattawan. Instructor for all grade levels and disciplines including, special education, art, music and gym.
2008 - 2010, Piloted Kalamazoo Artist’s Alliance Center, non-profit organization, along with two others in order to serve the local art community by providing an outlet which enabled artists to exhibit and sell their artwork. Also identified the need to educate local underprivileged children in the arts.
1989 - present, Owner of Valentino Walker Murals and Decorative Painting, LLC. Developed and maintained a creative arts small business, working in conjunction with builders, business owners, decorators and homeowners. Additional Professional Development
February - March 2013, Designed action research project based on developing strategies to help a visually impaired student to create art more independently. Through examination of the problem and implementation of strategies, the student was able to scaffold to next level of achievement. Project included examining what other educators have reported on this topic, deciding on a solution, implementing the solution and reflecting on the findings. Kalamazoo Central High School/ GVSU

I enjoy plein air painting, artistic methods applied through tech-based tools, digital photography, traveling and interior design.
I also spend my free time outdoors with my family participating in activities such as camping, canoeing and hiking. A few sports
that I like and have competed in are tennis, biking, downhill and cross-country skiing.
