Final Evaluation: Linda Walker
Mentor Teacher: Mark Voege, art teacher
Linda Walker started as a pre-intern 3 days a week during the Fall semester of 2012. She worked three days a week in the classroom and two days attending university courses. In the Spring semester of 2013 she was an intern for 10 weeks. In both semesters the courses were high school levels courses – Basic Design, Ceramics and Sculpture.
From the beginning, Ms. Walker participated in all areas of the educational process. Her knowledge of content knowledge is substantial due to her prior professional experiences in the art world. She was then able to apply that to educational delivery.
Kalamazoo Central High School is a very diverse school – economically, racially, socially and educationally. Ms. Walker is very aware that each student is unique and that differentiation in instruction and approach very widely among our different students. She carefully planned projects that involved multiple instructional strategies and provided success for students of different abilities. She utilized all the technology possibilities that the classroom provided – computer research, projector presentations, overhead demonstrations. She additionally has ability in a wide range of computer art programs.
As an instructor, Ms. Walker demonstrated good management skills. She guided students through initial presentations, directed the creation process and work times and ensured closure and clean up were conducted correctly. Assessments and feedback occurred regularly through the grading of art projects and periodic pre and post tests. Classes were large, and consistent supervision was required. She has the capacity to work with the adolescent learner in a caring and professional manner.
Ms. Walker presents herself as a professional manner. Her dress, timelines, preparedness and interactions with staff are all consistent with other teachers. She has a demeanor that is open and approachable. I feel she will be a good addition to any educational team.
